Corwin's Poetry Collection

Top o' th'mornin' to ye!Welcome to my online portfolio of poetry I've not only written but am sufficiently fond of not to have tossed into he wastepaper basket but to have set up for public display. A goal of mine is to become a published writer, working my way up from poetry to articles in magazines and journals to short stories and perhaps even an occasional novel. I've always been told that I'm an excellent writer, but being able to write well and actually putting the pen to paper, and then to go the step further to get published, is another thing altogether. Not only is it necessary to have a talent with using words and expressing oneself, and of course inspiration, but also knowledge, practice, dedication, perseverance, and self-confidence; in short, hard work. And luck, of course. Nut, even if I don't ever become a famous, or posthumously revered, author, I'm still going to write and do it for me; do it for the money and you end up like Stephen King or Danielle Steele!

Right now, though, I'm working on getting my life together and that demands a lot of time and effort on its own and can be very distracting from my creative endeavors. I'm talking from Square One, as in getting off the streets, learning to become more emotionally stable, socially adept, and responsible, and just carving out a niche for myself in the world where I feel comfortable, reasonably happy, and have a sense of purpose. This means getting a job, maybe seeing a counselor for a while to help me stay on track and to remind not to blow off a crappy food service job to spend a day getting wasted at the bar, saving up money to get a place to live in and eventually return to college to pursue a career in...well, I have yet to have ironed that out. It would also be nice to have the means to pursue and expand my interests, such as learn Aikido, ballroom dancing, and fencing, learn how to make crafts like soap and jewelry, or pay for a community garden plot so I can save money on groceries and have some decent tomatoes to cook with for a change. A laptop would also be nice.

I live in Portland, Oregon. In fact, I was born here, but consider myself a native of both Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington: a true Cascadian! In fact, I support the secession from the United States of the Northwest, though of course we all know what happens when anyone is brazen enough to attempt that! I've been around, too: I've lived near Santa Rosa and in the Bay Area in California, in Las Vegas, Georgia, and even in Switzerland. I'm almost thirty-five, but sometimes I think I'm going on twelve and other times I feel like an octogenarian. I'm an atheist and a socialist, absolutely adore cats and find lots of animals fascinating and beautiful; like to read; occasionally watch indie, foreign, and anime films; am a pretty good cook; love to drink tea; and I'm fascinated by diverse subjects like logic, astronomy, meteorology, various physical sciences, history, politics, philosophy, mythology, psychology, and alternative medicine; and, I've recently become increasingly interested in sustainability.
